Our idea is a simple one: a treat should be what the label says it is. Fish, beef or sweet potato. A short ingredient list, usually just one thing, and nothing added that you would have to look up.
Why we make treats this way
Most of what goes into a treat bag is there for the bag's sake: something to bind it, colour it, soften it, keep it. We would rather start from a good ingredient and leave it alone. The name on the front of the bag is what is inside it, and that is the whole recipe.
It is a short list, but it is a deliberate one. Dogs and cats get a treat they can simply enjoy, and you get a label you can read in a few seconds. If you would like to know why we keep it so short, we wrote it down.
Why so much of it is fish
Fish sits at the heart of our range, and we have written about the reasons on our Why Fish page. In short, it is a protein most pets do not eat every day, and some of the best parts of a fish are the ones that usually get thrown away.
Nothing goes to waste
The fish we use are processed for people first. The fillets go to the dinner table. What is left is put to work: the skin, the frame, the oil pressed out of the middle, and finally what remains, which becomes fish meal. The processors we work with use every part of the fish, and our treats are one of the places that skin and offcuts end up, instead of in the bin.
Where we are, and where things come from
Hungry Paws is made by Northern Pet Group, based in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Our sweet potato treats are made in the United States. Our dried sardines come from Vietnam, and we say so because you should know where your food comes from.
The blue MSC label applies to our cod and salmon treats. It does not apply to our sardines, and our Sourcing & Sustainability page explains exactly what the label does and does not mean, and what we are not claiming.
